I Yam What I Yam (Spicy Turkey and Yam Tacos)

If you train at TNT or otherwise know me personally, you know that I have a penchant for telling Dad Jokes. And, if you don’t know me personally, well… I’m not a dad, but I am an uncle—that is, a “faux pas”—so I figure that I can tell those jokes by proxy. 😉

In any case, based on the subject line of this tip, you could easily be forgiven if you had thought some kind of joke was coming.

What’s really happening is that I decided to write a brief recipe series to save both of us some time over the upcoming weeks. (I’m currently in the middle of a rim-to-rim-to-rim hike of the Grand Canyon. And with the arrival of summer, I’m guessing that you’d rather spend more time enjoying the sunshine than a second longer than necessary staring at a screen.)

This week’s recipe is spicy turkey & yam tacos.

If it at first seems odd to add yams to tacos, that’s what I initially thought too. But both the texture and flavor actually work quite well, especially with the spice and slightly crispy crunch of the jalapenos. Give ’em a try this week and let me know if you think so as well!

On a final note, if you’re new to getting these tips and haven’t previously seen one with a recipe, the ingredient list is written a little differently than what you might be used to seeing. It’s a modified version of a method used to simplify the cooking process.

I was first exposed to the idea when reading Tim Ferriss’ book The 4-Hour Chef, which is actually a great book if you currently aren’t very comfortable in the kitchen and want to either level-up your cooking skills or simply refine your process for learning anything new.

Okay, okay… I really couldn’t just mention Dad Jokes without also telling one. So…

Q: Why can’t you get angry at a yam?
A: Because they’re such sweet potatoes.

Sorry… 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️
