Private Coaching
Optimal for specific goals with a deadline or for individualized guidance involving nutrition, mental or physical performance, or a combination of the three.
What to expect
Goal-focused coaching
Effective coaching only works in the context of a defined objective. That’s why we start by getting clear on what you’re working toward, why it matters, and what progress actually looks like to you.
When we get to work, everything we do will be in service of helping you move toward your desired outcome. And when you achieve it, we can even help you decide what’s next.
Shared responsibility
Coaching works best when both sides are actively involved.
Our responsibility is to bring experience, structure, and perspective; yours is engagement, effort, and thoughtful follow-through between sessions.
Progress happens when we both stay curious, play our roles as well as we’re able, and share feedback openly and honestly.
A tailored approach
Training, habits, and expectations are shaped around your goals, experience, schedule, and preferences—not a template or a fixed number of sessions.
After reviewing your intake questionnaire, we’ll outline two to three coaching options that vary in structure, interaction, and scope. You can choose the option you think will work best, and we’ll hit the ground running.
Getting started
Because effective coaching depends on clarity, the first step is to fill out a short questionnaire. This helps us understand your goals, experience, and context so we can recommend coaching options that are appropriate for your specific situation.

FAQs
What does the private coaching process look like?
The first step is for you to fill out and submit the questionnaire above.
Based on your responses, we’ll draft a proposal with two or three private coaching options that vary in structure, interaction, and scope. Then we’ll email you the proposal, and the ball will be in your court to decide which option you think will best help you succeed.
After you’ve chosen an option, you can schedule your first session, and together we’ll get to work on achieving your goal.
Do I need to have a specific goal before starting?
Yes. But that doesn’t mean it needs to be anything jaw-dropping—just meaningful to you.
(If your goal feels a bit fuzzy, we can help clarify it together.)
What types of goals work well with private coaching?
Private coaching isn’t limited to purely fitness-related goals—just about any type of mental or physical goal with a measurable outcome† fits well..
Some mental—or habit-based—examples include:
- Reducing a snacking habit
- Improving quality of sleep
- Increasing productivity or effectiveness at work
- Developing better strategies for managing stress
Some physical examples include:
- Preparing for a race or active vacation
- Learning how to snatch a kettlebell or do a handstand
- Improving power, strength, endurance, or mobility for a certain sport
- Losing X number of pounds
† If you have a general outcome in mind but aren’t sure how to measure progress yet, we can help with that.
How long does private coaching typically last?
That depends on the type of goal you have, your starting point, and your preferred degree of support.
Some goals might need only a session or two, while others could call for multiple weekly sessions—and, optionally, brief intersession check-ins—for numerous months. Ongoing coaching that spans the achievement of multiple, successive goals is also common.
As you progress, your needs and preferences will likely change as well, and we’re happy to make adjustments as they do. (You won’t need to fill out the questionnaire again; we’ll simply discuss such options as they’re needed.)
Are there different coaching options or levels of support?
Yes. Apart from goals that only call for a small number of sessions, we’ll always include a minimum of two options that vary by structure, degree of interaction, and/or scope when we email you our coaching proposal.
How is pricing structured?
Pricing is structured based on the scope of your goal and the degree of interaction you prefer. Billing typically occurs monthly or quarterly, except in cases where your goal’s scope calls for only a session or two—like learning or refining specific exercise technique—in which case it’ll occur just once.
How much time or effort is expected outside of sessions?
That depends on your goal and how quickly you want to see results. In any case, we’ll never “prescribe” homework that “needs” to be done between sessions.
Rather, we’ll discuss possibilities for intersession effort and refine details with you so you feel confident in your ability to practice successfully on your own.
Do I need to be highly disciplined or "perfect" to succeed?
Nope. In fact, we actively recommend against relying on discipline and trying to be perfect because both strategies actually hinder progress.
We’ll instead help you create implementation intentions that support small improvements which compound over time. (You’ll get a glimpse of a similar concept in the questionnaire after we ask how important your goal is to you.)
What happens if I miss sessions or lose momentum?
Life is messy, and coaching works best when plans are flexible rather than rigid. We expect disruptions to occur and build approaches that allow for progress even when things aren’t perfect. If you miss a session, we’ll simply reschedule and adjust as needed.
As for momentum, it’s rarely a personal failure. In our experience, people lose momentum when a plan stretches their current capabilities too far or too quickly. When that happens, we take it as feedback—not a problem—and adjust the approach. The goal is always to challenge you just enough to produce progress while keeping the process sustainable.
What happens after I achieve my goal?
First, we’ll celebrate with you. (Seriously, that’s an important part of the process that people often gloss over.)
Then we’ll schedule a few laid-back sessions. After achieving mental or habit-based goals, the focus will be on reinforcing the habits you’ve developed. With physical goals, these sessions will give your body some extra recovery time while also stabilizing the progress you’ve made.
Finally, we’ll discuss how your goals have evolved, figure out what you might want to accomplish next, and start the process again.
